May Lee was the sister to Violet Kray and the maternal auntie to the Kray twins. May lived at 174 Vallance Road where the twins’ spare clothes were kept for them.
Aunt May on Vallance Road, c. 1960s
The Kray family moved into one of the small row of terraced houses occupied by various Lees, that part of Vallance Road being known locally as ‘Lee Corner’ or ‘Lee Street’. May and Albert Filler had married in 1936 and were moved to live in Union Crescent, Bethnal Green, with their little daughter Rita. She was known around the local area as 'Dinah' by taxi drivers. She was portrayed by Charlotte Cornwell in The Krays (film) in 1990.
